Yoga for Fear - Can Yoga Help Treat Panic Attack Syndrome?

Can Yoga really help those who suffer from panic attacks? Panic attacks can be crippling, with waves of fear, racing heartbeat, shortness of breath, and other symptoms that make victims feel like they are about to die. These disabling attacks are common, as well; at least 20% of adult Americans will suffer from a panic attack at some time in their lives. That is around 60 million people facing intense distress; and following one attack, the risk of having another is increased. Clearly, panic attacks have a major impact on sufferers' lives, and treatment is very important. One area, where positive results, regarding the reduction of attacks have been noted, is in Yoga practice.

The emphasis in Yoga on mind, body, and breath is a classic relaxation technique. A 2007 article, in Yoga Journal, by Dr. Timothy McCall, suggests some specific practices for anxiety and panic attacks: "[the best method is] a good asana practice, which burns off the nervous energy that can contribute to anxiety... A number of breathing practices, including abdominal breathing and lengthening the exhalation relative to the inhalation, help reduce symptoms of anxiety. Scientific studies suggest that left-nostril breathing can effectively reduce symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder."

The effects of paying attention to one's body, and breathing in a Yoga practice can make individuals more self-aware and allow them to detect early signs of a panic attack. Since anxiety often builds on itself, early detection is the key to heading off major attacks; calming techniques work best, if practiced early in the cycle of anxiety, breaking the negative feedback loop.

So how can you help your Yoga students, who may be suffering from anxiety or panic attacks? Encourage awareness, throughout practice, of sensations in their bodies. Breathing through postures will help give them control over their breathing in situations where they experience shortness of breath; and controlled breathing, in turn, controls the nervous system.

As anxious people tend to be self-critical, the teacher should adopt a warm, reassuring style, letting students know that it is all right not to understand all the sensations they may be feeling. Have students practice flowing through the Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskara), at their own pace, concentration on their breathing, and not trying to keep pace with a teacher or another student.

This feeling of continuous movement and controlled breathing, at their own pace, will help them "break the spell" of feeling paralyzed when anxious. Finally, teaching some hand mudras for relaxation will give Yoga students a focal point, in situations where they cannot perform a full series of poses.

Fasteners and Fixings: Why Do My Drill Bits Keep Breaking?

Nothing can be more frustrating during a home improvement project than a dill bit breaking. After all, there are only so many of these fasteners and fixings in each drill set, and constant trips to hardware store to purchase new ones can strain your wallet and your productivity. If you are having trouble with breaking drill bits, here is some information to help you determine the causes and figure out some solutions.

Drill Bit Design

One of the most common reasons for failure of one of these fasteners and fixings is a failure in the design.

Poor Strength- The drill breaks because a large amount of deflection at the end of the bit. To avoid this, change the web taper and thickness. Little Chip Pocket-An extreme twist can cause the middle of the flute to break. In order to prevent this from occurring, make the chip pocket larger and change the web taper and thickness. Unnecessary Long Flute and Body-If the flute and body of the bits are too long, the accuracy of the bit will be incorrect. Make sure the bit is an appropriate length before you attempt to use the drill bit.

Problems with the Manufacturing

Issuing involving how the drill bit was made may cause problems with your bits.

Geometries of the Drill are Unbalanced- This can cause problems with the accuracy of the drilling, can cause gaps, and chipping. Worn Diameters-If the diameter is worn, the cutting resistance will increase and the drill bits will often experience breakage.

Conditions of Drilling

As you are using one of these fasteners and fixings, you should consider what kind of drill bit you have selected for each material. If you use the wrong bit for your project, you may experience chipping and breaking. Here are just a few more conditions which can affect how secure your bit is.

High and Low Chipload- If you have a high or load chipload, progressive use can result in inaccurate holes, increased thrust, and breakage. Make sure the chipload of your bit is correct before you use it. Spindle Speed- A high spindle speed can increase the bit's resistance to cutting. Low spindle speed can increase friction between the bit and material. This friction causes heat and can lead to broken bits. Applying the right speed can ensure prevention of this type of breakage. Backup Boards- If the material you are working with has a backup board, you will most likely have to deal with swarf particles generated by the backup board. These swarf particles stick to the drill bit and can cause it to break. Make sure to only drill as far into the material as recommended to avoid this.

Broken drill bits can be frustrating, but if you understand why the breakage is occurring, you may be able to find a prevent damage to these fasteners and fixings. Make sure your bits bits are always clean and be sure to use the appropriate ones with your materials to lessen the chances of breakage.

7. Remember, you don't need to eat the whole portion at the restaurant: think about your dog! Bring home.

8. Never buy XL clothes. It's good if you don't feel comfortable in your clothes.

9. Start flirting with your husband again. It will give you a high self-esteem. It's a nice encouragement to lose weight.

10. DON'T WATCH TV - they have innumerous crappy food commercials. Stay away from temptations.

These are different attitudes that worked for me. Try to find your downfalls and develop your own rules. Good luck!

But what if this surfer is not interested in this item for auction. Well, don't let him/her leave without inviting him/her to view your other auctions. Say something like "If you don't see what you are looking for here - please visit my other auctions" and create a link to your other auctions, possibly your "me page" which lists all the auctions you have running.

Where to Deduct Tax Preparation Fees

Where should an individual taxpayer deduct tax preparation fees? The obvious answer might be on Schedule A of Form 1040 as a miscellaneous deduction. Are tax preparation fees deductible only on Schedule A for all taxpayers? Thankfully, the answer is no.

Deducting tax preparation fees on Schedule A will provide little or no benefit for most taxpayers because the total miscellaneous deductions must exceed two percent of the taxpayer's adjusted gross income to provide any benefit. In addition, the taxpayer's total itemized deductions must usually exceed the standard deduction amount to provide any tax benefit.

The IRS ruled in Rev. Rul. 92-29 that taxpayers may deduct tax preparation fees related to a business, a farm, or rental and royalty income on the schedules where the taxpayer reports such income.

A taxpayer who is self-employed may deduct the portion of the tax preparation fees related to the business, including schedules such as depreciation schedules, on Schedule C of Form 1040 as a business expense. The tax preparation fees deducted on Schedule C save the taxpayer income tax and self-employment tax.

A taxpayer who is self-employed as a farmer would deduct the portion of the tax preparation fees related to the farm on Schedule F of Form 1040. The tax preparation fees deducted on Schedule F save the taxpayer income tax and self-employment tax.

A taxpayer who has rental and/or royalty income reported on Schedule E of Form 1040 would deduct the portion of the tax preparation fees related to the rental and/or royalty income on Schedule E. The tax preparation fees deducted on Schedule E save the taxpayer income tax. However, the tax preparation fees deducted on Schedule E do not save the taxpayer any self-employment tax because the rental and/or royalty income reported on Schedule E is not subject to self-employment tax.

A taxpayer may not deduct all of the tax preparation fees on Schedules C, E, and F of Form 1040. The tax preparer should provide a statement to the taxpayer that indicates how much of the tax preparation fee was related to the taxpayer's business, farm, and/or rental and/or royalty income. The taxpayer may deduct the remainder of the tax preparation fee only on Schedule A.

If the tax preparer does not provide the taxpayer with a detailed statement showing how much of the tax preparation fee was for the taxpayer's business, farm, and/or rental and/or royalty income, the taxpayer shoud ask the tax preparer for an itemized statement. If the tax preparer will not provide an itemized statement, the taxpayer should use a reasonable allocation. In that case, the taxpayer should seriously consider using a different tax preparer next year.

Here is an example. Assume that the taxpayer is self-employed and also owns rental real estate. The tax preparation fee for the taxpayer's Form 1040 and related schedules for 2005 was $600. The tax preparer states that of the $600 total fee, $300 was related to the taxpayer's business, $200 was related to the rental real estate, and the remainng $100 was related to other parts of the taxpayer's income tax return. The taxpayer paid the $600 in February 2006.

On the taxpayer's income tax return for 2006, the taxpayer may deduct the $600 tax preparation fee as follows: $300 on Schedule C, $200 on Schedule E, and $100 on Schedule A as a miscellaneous deduction.
